According to legend, over 300 years ago, several Spanish galleons were said to have sunk off the southeastern coast of Florida, dumping all of their treasures onto the ocean floor, never to be seen again. As a result, this coastal area, which includes West Palm Beach , Palm Beach and Jupiter Island , has earned itself the nickname the Gold Coast.
Palm Beach is the most famous of these communities, with a name that has become synonymous with luxury and wealth. One of Florida's most popular tourist destinations, Palm Beach and its relaxed, cultured atmosphere has much to offer visitors, whether it is a parade of opulent mansions, a polo match at the Palm Beach Polo & Country Club , or live music at the outdoor Coral Sky Amphitheater.
West Palm Beach initially formed as the residential community for the bigger, flashier Palm Beach. Over time, though, the city has evolved its own distinctive personality. Its waterfront location, warm tropical climate, sunny palm-lined streets, historic neighborhoods and shopping districts, and a vibrant arts community all combine to create an elegant, luxurious community.
